# How to buy a VPS with crypto: BTC, ETH, XMR, USDT and SOL

From the deploy page to a running server: which coin to pick, how the top-up, rate lock and bonus work, and what to do when a payment goes wrong.

Key takeaways

- A VPS crypto payment here is a top-up of your USD balance; servers and renewals are then paid from it, with no invoice.
- If your balance is short, the deploy page asks for a top-up of at least $100 and orders the server once the payment confirms.
- Send the exact amount, in one transaction, within the rate lock: 30 minutes, or 45 for Bitcoin and Monero.
- Monero is the private option; the other four coins use public ledgers.
- Too little, too much or too late: the payment page and its report form handle all three.

To buy a VPS with crypto, configure the server on its deploy page, create an account in the same form, then top up your balance in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Monero, USDT or Solana by sending the exact amount shown on the payment page. Once the payment confirms, the server is ordered and paid from your balance automatically.

Confirmation takes from under a minute with Solana to about 30 minutes with Bitcoin or Monero, and a VPS is live about 60 seconds after it is ordered. This guide covers each step, the choice of coin and what to do when a payment goes wrong. Our [crypto payments page](https://offshoreserv.com/crypto-payments) summarizes coins and confirmations.

## Why pay for hosting with crypto

Crypto takes the card processor out of the purchase: no bank between you and the server, no card details on file and no chargebacks, because an on-chain payment is final. That finality is also why an email address is all we need. Hosts that take cards check identities largely because stolen cards come back as chargebacks; with nothing to claw back, there is nothing to insure against with your ID.

The payment also stays separate from your account. The gateway that generates the deposit address and watches the blockchain receives the amount, the coin and a random payment reference, never your email or account details. Your balance is kept in US dollars and never expires while your account is open. The trade-offs are real too: network fees are yours to pay, confirmations take time, and four of the five coins we accept record every transfer on a public ledger.

## Which coin should you use to buy a VPS with crypto?

Every coin tops up the same USD balance, so the choice comes down to speed, fees and privacy:

| Coin | Confirmations | Typical time | Good for | Privacy |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Bitcoin (BTC) | 1 | About 10 to 30 min | The most widely held coin | Public ledger |
| Ethereum (ETH) | 12 | About 2 to 5 min | Most wallets and exchanges | Public ledger |
| Monero (XMR) | 10 | About 20 to 30 min | Private payments | Private by default |
| Tether (USDT) | 12 | About 2 to 5 min | An amount stable in dollars | Public ledger |
| Solana (SOL) | Finalized | Under 1 min | Speed and low fees | Public ledger |

- **For privacy,** choose [Monero](https://offshoreserv.com/monero-vps): the sender, the receiver and the amount are hidden on-chain.
- **For a stable amount,** choose [USDT](https://offshoreserv.com/usdt-vps), which tracks the dollar. Send it only on the network shown on the payment page, since funds sent on another network may be lost, and keep enough in your wallet for that network's transfer fee.
- **For speed,** choose [Solana](https://offshoreserv.com/solana-vps). We credit a payment once it is finalized, which the Solana documentation describes as ["the strongest confirmation state used by the network"](https://solana.com/docs/rpc). Send native SOL: other tokens on Solana are not credited.
- **For what you already hold,** use [Bitcoin](https://offshoreserv.com/bitcoin-vps), on-chain only, or [Ethereum](https://offshoreserv.com/ethereum-vps) on the Ethereum network itself, not a layer 2.

## How to buy a VPS with crypto, step by step

Everything happens on the server's deploy page, from the configuration to the payment:

1. **Configure the server.** Pick the plan and the jurisdiction, then the billing cycle (quarterly saves 5%, yearly 12%), the operating system and, if you like, a hostname and an SSH public key.
2. **Create your account in the same form.** An email address and a password, nothing else, with a Cloudflare Turnstile check against bots. You can also [register first](https://offshoreserv.com/register), or sign in if you have an account.
3. **Check the balance.** The payment step compares your balance with the order. If it covers the order, confirm and the server is ordered at once. If not, the page asks for a top-up of at least the missing amount, never less than $100, shows its bonus and lets you choose the coin.
4. **Pay on the payment page.** It shows the exact amount, the deposit address, the network and a countdown; for Bitcoin, Monero and Solana, an "Open in wallet" button fills in your wallet for you. Send exactly that amount in one transaction; network fees are paid by the sender, on top of it.
5. **Wait for the confirmations.** The page follows the payment from "Waiting for your transfer" to "Payment detected" and "Credited to your balance". You can close it: crediting is automatic.
6. **Let the order place itself.** Once the top-up and its bonus are credited, the server is ordered and paid from your balance. A VPS is live in about 60 seconds, Windows RDP in about 5 minutes, dedicated servers in 2 to 24 hours and GPU servers in 1 to 24 hours. Access details appear on the service page in the client area; they are not sent by email.

If the order can no longer be placed when the payment arrives, for example because the plan went out of stock, the top-up stays on your balance and the payment page says so.

## Top-up minimum and bonuses

A top-up is between $100 and $10,000 per payment, and every top-up earns a bonus, credited when the payment confirms:

| Top-up | Bonus | Example |
| --- | --- | --- |
| From $100 | +10% | $100 credits $110 |
| From $250 | +20% | $250 credits $300 |
| From $500 | +30% | $500 credits $650 |
| From $750 | +40% | $750 credits $1,050 |
| From $1,000 | +50% | $1,000 credits $1,500 |

The bonus pays for any server or renewal, but it is not refundable and cannot be withdrawn. One top-up goes a long way: the $110 credited for $100 covers a Cutter VPS (2 vCPU, 4 GB of RAM, $5.49 a month) for 20 months, with each renewal taken from the balance and no new transaction to send. Outside an order, you can top up at any time under **Billing > Add funds**, for example ahead of your renewals.

## The rate lock

Crypto prices move, so the payment page fixes the crypto amount for a set time: 30 minutes, or 45 minutes for Bitcoin and Monero. Send within that window and the amount on the page is what you owe, whatever the market does meanwhile. Once the top-up is credited, it is held in US dollars, so later price moves do not change your balance.

If the window runs out before you send, do not pay the old amount: open a new payment page. Changed your mind before sending anything? Cancel the payment from its page. With Bitcoin, pick a network fee that confirms within about 30 minutes, so the payment lands inside the 45-minute window.

## Sent the wrong amount or paid late?

| What happened | What happens next | What you do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| You sent too little | The payment page shows what is still due | Send the rest before the payment expires |
| Your transfer arrived after the deadline | It is still detected for about 2.5 hours and credited automatically | Nothing, unless it is not credited |
| The payment expired incomplete, the transfer arrived later still, or you sent too much | Our team checks the blockchain and credits what arrived to your balance | Report it from the payment's page |

To report, open the payment under **Billing**, choose **Payment problem? > Report**, pick what happened (sent after the deadline, sent more than the amount shown, or sent less and the payment expired) and paste the transaction ID. The answer appears on the same page: the transaction ID is all we need to check the blockchain.

## Refunds and withdrawals

- **VPS and RDP.** A 72-hour money-back window on the first period of a new service, as long as no abuse complaint is pending. Request it from the service's page: the server is stopped and deleted, and the amount goes back to your balance.
- **Your balance.** The unused part that came from top-ups can be withdrawn: choose **Withdraw** in the balance card under **Billing**, pick the coin and give a wallet address. It is sent minus the network fee. The bonus, referral commission and service credits are never paid out.
- **Dedicated and GPU servers.** Not refundable once delivered, because the hardware is provisioned for you.

Crypto payments cannot be reversed on our side, and a balance left on an account when it is closed is forfeited, so spend or withdraw it first. The full rules are in our [terms of service](https://offshoreserv.com/terms).

## Records and tax

For each payment, keep the transaction ID, the date, the coin and the dollar amount credited; for Monero, also keep the transaction key, which proves a payment without revealing your wallet, as our [Monero payment guide](https://offshoreserv.com/blog/pay-for-a-vps-with-monero) explains. Each payment also has a reference starting with `OS-TU-`. There are no per-order invoices, but the client area lists every top-up, order and renewal and exports them as CSV from **Billing**.

Tax rules are yours, and they vary. In the United States, [digital assets are treated as property](https://www.irs.gov/filing/digital-assets), and exchanging them for goods or services must be reported. In the EU, the [DAC8 directive](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/dir/2023/2226/oj) has, since 1 January 2026, required crypto-asset service providers to report their EU-resident users' transactions to tax authorities. Ask an accountant how your country treats paying with crypto.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I pay for a VPS with Bitcoin?

Yes. To buy a VPS with Bitcoin, choose it on the deploy page or under **Billing > Add funds**, and send on-chain BTC from any wallet. One confirmation is enough, usually 10 to 30 minutes, and the BTC amount is locked for 45 minutes. Lightning is not accepted. Bitcoin's ledger is public, so for a private payment, use Monero.

### Which crypto has the lowest fees for paying hosting?

Usually Solana: its base fee is [5,000 lamports per signature](https://solana.com/docs/core/fees), which is 0.000005 SOL, plus an optional priority fee. Monero fees are usually a few cents. Bitcoin and Ethereum fees vary with network demand, and USDT costs whatever its network charges. Whatever the coin, you pay the network fee on top of the amount shown.

### Can I pay from an exchange?

Yes, if it withdraws on the right network: on-chain BTC, ETH on the Ethereum network, native SOL, and USDT on the network shown on the payment page. Its withdrawal fee must not be taken out of the amount, and a slow withdrawal can miss the rate lock. The exchange also knows who you are and which address it paid. A wallet you control avoids these surprises.

### What happens if the price moves while I pay?

Nothing, as long as you send within the rate lock. The payment page fixes the crypto amount for 30 minutes, or 45 for Bitcoin and Monero, and the dollar amount of your top-up is credited once the payment confirms. From then on your balance is in US dollars, so price moves no longer affect it. If the window has passed, open a new payment page.

### Can I pay renewals in crypto?

Yes. Renewals are charged from your balance on the due date, with no invoice, and you can top up in any of the five coins whenever you like. The client area shows upcoming renewals and warns you when the balance is short. Top up early: an unpaid service is suspended 3 days after its due date, then deleted 14 days later for VPS and RDP, or 7 days for dedicated and GPU servers.

### Is there a minimum payment?

Yes. A top-up is between $100 and $10,000 per payment, and the $100 minimum already earns a 10% bonus. When you order from the deploy page with a short balance, the top-up is at least the missing amount and never less than $100. Plans start at $2.39 a month, so one minimum top-up covers many months of the smallest VPS.
